Default Bingo for the Blind

Joanna Richardson who is 51 was sadfully born with out sight, was never one to throw away money trying to play the great game of bingo. Though due to new bingo cards she is loving the game.

Just earlier this month Joanna Richardson was able to yell bingo for the first time because her new electronic bingo card tell her that she had won the game.

Joanna Richardson led a two year battle to get the state Racing and Wagering board in New York to allow these computerized bingo cards. Previously these digital bingo cards were prohibited because of the complaints from the other players in the bingo halls. Theses cards were not allowed to make noise, which meant that those with impairments to eye sight could not really play because they of course were not able to read the cards.

Joanna Richardson spent those two years sendin emails and reaching out to agency officials to inquire as to whether or not changes to this policy would be made.

Thanks to Richardson's efforts and time spent Bingo halls are now able to offer electronic audible bingo cards to those players who are disabled.

Joe Mahoney who is a spokesman for the agency has said that Joanna Richardson is a profile in persistence.

The battle for these new computerized bingo cards took so long because officals did not want bingo halls to take on the atmosphere of a casino with lights and sounds. Though they did agree that allowing these cards would allow those like Joanna to play bingo freely with out assistance and enjoy the game so much more.

This is something that touched my heart and I just had to post about it. Everyone should be able to enjoy playing bingo reguardless of a disability or not. I am glad that Joanna fought for her rights to enjoy the game and won.

Just goes to show that if someone puts their mind to something and sticks with it, anything can be accomplished.
